Customer for life! I’ve hunted and packed with horses my whole life. But sometimes, in certain places horses are not convenient and a ton of work. Llamas are tough and on a whole different level of easy! Great experience with the animals as well as the owner/operators. I’ll be renting llamas from these guys every year.

I cannot say enough good things about Jason and his llamas. I purchased Apollo (black) and Timmy (middle tan) this summer and this was our first over nighter. They handled the packs without issue, great temperament and awesome endurance. Can't wait for my 2-week Montana hike this winter. Thanks again Jason!

I've been renting from Backcountry Logistics for 2 seasons now. I was new to renting llamas two years ago, but now I am a believer. Jason was flexible in scheduling a helpful training class for us to learn how to care and handle the llamas so that when we finally had them in the field, there were no surprises. He's trained these llamas to have an excellent temperament. The will walk behind you while attached to their rope & halter. They do not spook and are very comfortable with human interaction and wearing their gear.I've used them in the heat of the summer and very cold late season hunts. They have done very well in both scenarios. They seemed to hike 5-10 miles a day with ease. And, they can carry up to 70 pounds in their panniers. They do not require a lot of water and will eat just about anything that is green.Jason was also very flexible for where we could pick up and drop off the llamas. He keeps llamas at a few different locations to accommodate a variety of states. These llamas are awesome - I highly recommend for your next backpack hunt/camping trip!

I’ve been packing with llamas since the mid-90’s. I’ve owned about 20 of my own and rented quite a few. I just came out of the mountains with a trio of packers that I rented from Backcountry Logistics, and I will honestly say that hands down, they were the best pack llamas I’ve ever used on the trail. I had about 4,000’ of elevation gain in warm to hot weather (can be the bane of some pack llamas) and they charged up the mountain without one lagging or laying down the entire 10 day trip. We moved camp multiple times during the hunt, packing them both on and off trails, where they performed equally well. There is a BIG difference between a lama and a “pack llama”, trust me, I’ve packed with a lot of “llamas” masquerading as pack llamas and it is not an enjoyable experience. If I thought I could have passed it off without scrutiny, I would have told the Wittwers that they were eaten by wolves and then had my dream string of pack llamas of my own.

Multiple trips in recent years using Backcountry Logistics Llamas. Top shelf people to work with and the pack llamas are the best animal I have been around in the backcountry. Follow the few “rules” that are outlined and these animals open up a whole new world or possibilities and mobility in the backcountry.

These llamas are a game changer! Dustin and Jason are the best guys around. Took 2 llamas deep in the backcountry with rain, snow, and sunshine and they performed as advertised. If you've ever considered llamas don't hesitate and give these guys a go!

Renting llamas took my hunting trip to the next level. It allowed me to go farther into the Backcountry and stay longer. The lammas were easy to handle and well behaved. Dustin and Jason are the best in the business.

I've used this service on a few different hunting trips and backpack trips. Llamas are always great, well behaved, and in shape. I've had different llamas every time with the same result, an awesome trip. By reputation I assumed I would get spit on but well trained llamas are just there to carry heavy stuff and eat grass! Jason and Dustin do a great job making you comfortable with everything you need to know about these curious critters. It seems like a daunting task to be able to take them afield but they are super easy to deal with even if you have no previous experience with livestock. The two hours orientation class teaches you everything you need to know and is actually quite fun.

I've rented from these guys for three years now and honestly it's been exceptional service and help each year. Even though the llamas have been different each year we've rented they result is the same...good animals that are in good shape and well behaved. I know this because a friend who we were backpack hunting with showed up with llamas from another outfit and the physical condition of his (so laggard and slow) was night and day to the llamas from Backcountry Logistics,I hadn't ever used llamas before the first year and the trailer rental along with the pre rental education was so helpful. Communication during the booking and leading up to the rental period was excellent. The few extra questions I had were quickly answered. The llamas were quite easy to care for in the mountains, more so than I had thought. We were located a few hours away and they coordinated with me for pickup and drop off. Honestly went above and beyond.I'm considering using them for an upcoming backpack trip with my family to both lighten our loads and to add an element of uniqueness to the trip.Looking forward to my upcoming rental this fall for a fourth year in a row.
